Alexandra Rosenfeld, Miss Europe 2007 in the village of Gordes, Vaucluse, France. Photo by Jean-Marc ROSIER.Miss Europe is an annual, regional beauty pageant among female contestants from the nations of the European continent established at the end of World War II by Roger Zeiler of the French Committee of Elegance and Claude Berr. Most contestants won their respective national contests for Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss Earth and participated as supplemental training for their respective competitions. If the titleholders have not succeeded in winning their international titles, titleholders eventually compete for the Miss Europe crown, such as the case of France's Elodie Gossuin who placed in the Top 10 at Miss Universe 2001 yet won the Miss Europe title in the subsequent year.

Recent editions have included contestants from Israel, and Lebanon. In fact, its 2001 and 2002 pageants were held in Lebanon, well outside of the geographic boundaries of Europe. The license to the pageant passed on to French production company Endemol in 2003.

Miss Europe 2006

The casting tour among winners of Ukrainian regional beauty competitions will start in June and will last through July. The final is slated for October to November, 2006. The winner of the competition will be established through balloting by TV audience. According to Omar Arfush, the "Miss Europe - 2006" competition in Kyiv became possible under purchase of the show. He also said that he is on a stage of negotiations with Hollywood actress Sharon Stone to head the jury of the competition.

Alexandra Rosenfeld won Miss Europe 2006

Blonde Miss France, Alexandra Rosenfeld, on Friday won the Miss Europe 2006 title in the Ukrainian capital which hosted the annual contest for the first time. Rosenfeld, 19, from the southern Languedoc region, was chosen by an international jury headed by Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli.

The youngest sister of the 1996 title holder, Claire-Marie Harrison, is now a professional *bridal make-up artist under her married name of Charlotte Greaves.
